Letter from the President
Our 65th Annual Membership Meeting will be held virtually via Zoom this year on Wednesday, February 3, 2021 at 7 p.m. (Zoom details on the website.) Due to COVID-19, we are unable to meet at the clubhouse this year. Please attend as your input is important to us in the decisions we make as a board. The meeting is not expected to be lengthy, but we’ll share updates on our work over this past year, elect Board members, approve the budget, and listen to your feedback for the coming year. This year was like no other. Everyone worked hard to ensure an environment where members of all ages could safely enjoy time at the pool. Even with COVID restrictions, our swim and dive teams had opportunities this past summer to practice, build skills and have some summer fun. Also, from the time we opened on June 6, we saw more than 13,800 member visits to the pool. Thank you to so many members, including my fellow board members, for their contributions of time and energy to make the summer safe and enjoyable ﹘ and for everyone’s patience and grace.
In addition to creating reservation systems and safety protocols/procedures related to COVID-19 last year, the Board also completed major capital renovations and improvements to the pool this year, including a major pump room renovation and an erosion remediation project. These improvements help maintain the quality of our property and provide a healthy and safe facility for all our members and staff.
To offset lost income from last summer, the Board began renting the pool to the Nation’s Capital Swim Club (NCAP) this past fall, after the pool closed for the season. In addition to providing young swimmers with a chance to continue swimming, this approach has been providing income to DHARA without any significant management or DHARA staffing needed.
You can vote electronically on the website for up to six DHARA board members — or download/print the ballot and mail it back by Feb. 2. Each membership can vote only once.
